The syringe & bottle feeding of pups you see here is in addition to nursing, not a substitute.
My breeding prgramme is dependant greatly on supplementary feeding pre and during and post pregnancy.
Last year's litter, we had 4 request for males, one for female, so I bred aiming for mainly (but not entirely) males. Again, just like when I announced in 2010, months in advance that our next litter would be males
(and it was 7 pups, 7 males) and when I announced in 2009 it would females (9 pups, 9 females)
For those who might be perplexed by my comments about deciding on the dam's time of estrus (when to bring her into heat) and selecting the sex of the pups, yes I can and I did. I can bring the female into heat when I want to, and I did it successfully, either to avoid a time when breeding would not be suitable for my schedule or because applicants with good homes were ready and confirmed. It's the same "farming animals" procedure and diet we experimented with in school overseas.
And yes I can choose the sex of the puppies. If you have been following up on our breeding programme, we trice announced 2 months prior to breeding (4 months before the puppies were born) that it'll be a mainly females litter - twice (as very well every applicant happened to want a female) - and it was entirely, literally all females litter once, and the other time it was 8 females - 2 males.
I have added pages on how to select the sex and the colour of the puppies. See the library link.
